Antique Oak Flooring
Many of the old barns in more prosperous farm areas of the north were built of Oak, often with mixtures of Red and White Oak used indiscriminatley. If desired, White Oak flooring can be selected for an order. Today, the beams are resawn into flooring, either plain sawn, vertical grain, or mixtures – all of which will have fair representation of the natural wood color and grain, but with the dark patina along the edges. If made from siding, the flooring is generally plain sawn and with areas of dark patina depending on how close to the surface the original boards were milled. There will be nail holes and other imperfections reflecting the original use of the wood. Having come from older trees there will be a fair amount of tighter grain.
